Hello ! Readers,
Warmly welcome in my blog. I am coming with something new and different. I hope you will enjoy. Let's begin with the word " Horror! " I am sure you thinks about something Supernatural and Gothic. Yes, you are right I will deal with this topic connected with very beautiful and horrible novel " Frankenstein " by Mary Shelley. Here is my blog on small task assigned by Heena ma'am.
♧ Brief Introduction about the novel :-
" Frankenstein " js a novel, written by Mary Shelley, who was famous novelist in the Romantic age. Frankenstein is a novel about Victor Frankenstein, who is scientist, creates the Monster as a scientific experiment. After creation he leaves the Monster alone. The whole story is about the Monster who wants to take revenge with Frankenstein and his family. Now let's see how Mary Shelley described the novel and what type of changes made by Kenneth Branagh in the movie.
♧ What is the difference between the movie and the novel :-
☆ The first point of difference between the movie and the original novel is about Setting and time limitation. The story of whole novel described in movie within few hours by director. While reading the novel readers takes lots of time.
☆ The second point is, in the original novel by Mary Shelley the Monster wants to take revenge with Victor Frankenstein and Society because society's people rejects him for his ugly looking, while in the movie by Kenneth Branagh, the Monster wants to take revenge with only Victor Frankenstein and his family.
☆ The third very important point is that in the original novel when Victor Frankenstein meets Robert Walton near North Pole, Victor Frankenstein is Old, weak and ill. While in the movie, when Victor Frankenstein meets Robert Walton, he is very young man.
☆ In the beginning of the novel by Mary Shelley, there is description about the place where, Frankenstein and his family lives and also narration with some facts. While in the movie that descriptive part is absent.
☆ Does the movie help you to understand narrative structure of the novel ? :-
Yes, ofcourse. Movie helps a lot to understand the narrative structure of the novel. Because " Visual speaks more than words. "In the novel we can only read the text. While in the movie we can see visual pictures of any perticular scene. It helps a lot to remember the plot of the story. There are many scene in the movie which creates a horror, while Victor Frankenstein creates the Monster the audience feels something horrible and it put the effect on the mind of audience.
And also the setting of the novel. The whole novel takes place in North Pole. While reading the novel we only read the description of the setting. On the other side of the movie we can enjoy visual setting of the place. for example in the movie Frankenstein we enjoyed the place of North Pole where the land of snow like,
In short movie helps a lot to understand the novel easily. We can remember plot in more easy way.
☆ Do you think the movie is helpful to understand the view point of different characters :-
Yes, the movie help me a lot to understand the characters in more nearer. Especially Victor Frankenstein and the Monster. In the novel we can only read about any perticular characters that what they do and how they do but in the novel we can see practically any characters that how they play their role. For example while viewing movie we can see the action of Victor Frankenstein and the Monster, how Frankenstein does experiment and how the horrible looks of the Monster. How they meets together face to face and they does conversation.
☆ What do you think about the creation of lady Monster in the novel and Elizabeth's looks of a Monster in the movie :-
We all know that there are little bit changes in the original novel and the movie by Kenneth Branagh. Because Mary Shelley, while her description of lady Monster in the novel, the readers only read the description of creation rather than see it or look it but in the movie we can see that how Victor Frankenstein creates the lady Monster and how ugly looking she was. The creation of lady Monster is the result of broke the promise of the Monster by Victor Frankenstein. After breaking promise of the Monster he killed the wife of Frankenstein Elizabethan and then Frankenstein creates the lady Monster. Here Mary Shelley put the references of " Paradise lost " the creation of Eve as a companion of Adam. So in the novel Frankenstein we can say that the creation of lady Monster is the result of companion of the Monster.
☆ Do you think the director is faithful to the novel ?
Yes, we can say that the director, Kenneth Branagh is faithful to the novel. Yes there are some changes in the movie but still Kenneth Branagh became successful to give different shapes to the movie. We can understand easily description of the creation of the Monster and the lady Monster in the movie. Kenneth Branagh is more liberal in the movie.
