Hello ! Readers,
Here is my blog on Sunday reading task : Shashi Tharoor assigned by Dr. Dilip Barad sir. I hope you will enjoy.
☆ Brief introduction about Shashi Tharoor :-
Born :- 9th March 1956
This is the interview video of Shashi Tharoor is about his own book, " An era of Darkness. " In this video Shashi Tharoor says that all the arguments of the books are against the British empire. The narrative of the story is not on one side or one aspect. I like the argument most is that the answer of question by Shashi Tharoor. Interviewer ask that, " Everyone talks about the partition and immediate legacy of the colonial rules. How much would you run ups in the partition. How would you blame colonial policies ?" The answer of Shashi Tharoor is that the entire communities of Hindu and Muslims were under colonial rules and the Britishers wanted to made Muslim community separate from Bengal. The greatest change was that the separation between different communities. The Britishers were shocked when they saw that how the muslims celebrated Hindu's customs and how the Hindus celebrated the muslims customs. Further more in this video the argument that I like most is that the Bengal Renaissance. Shashi Tharoor discuss about the influence of " Sati System " He says that Britishers had never interfered in the Indian customs. But there were many other Indians who stand against remarriage of widows. Raja Ram Mohanroy who abolished the Sati system. Other many arguments are discussed by Shashi Tharoor in this video like,
1. The British wrecked our industries.
2. Colonial rules worsened poverty and landlessness.
3. Famines were British induced.
4. Partition.
5. Colonisation of the Indian mind.
The reason of my likeness of these arguments is that Shashi Tharoor openly stands against all the Britishers and writes about Darkness of India in his book rather that praising of India. He put every realities of India. And observed all things that done by Britishers in India. He put all the truth in much deeper way and very beautifully argues about these all.
This is the second interview video of Shashi Tharoor about the influence of British Colonialism in his new book " An Era of Darkness." This is the very popular book of Shashi Tharoor. Shashi Tharoor says that this is the subject that I like most. He says that for this book he read lots of journals, articles, academic books and many contemporary histories or other British writers which are best sellers. In this video the argument that I like most is that the answer of the question, " What is England now as sing of Indian wealth. Do you agree with premise that if the British was never came to India, would India be the kind of affluent country that shouldn't been power of developed European countries?" In this answer of this questions Shashi Tharoor very beautifully described about the wealth of India and the richness of industrialisation in India. Shashi Tharoor says that there wereain three industries in India 1. Texstyle industry. 2. Steele Industry. 3. Ship building industry. And how all the Britishers broke thiese industries and established their new industries. How they all used the Indian arts. So. These are all about the interview videos of Shashi Tharoor about his very popular book An Era of Darkness. "
Thank you...

Now let us discuss brief information about his book, " An Era of Darkness. "
An Era of Darkness:
The British Empire in India
In 1930, the American historian and philosopher will Durant wrote that Britain Conscious and deliberate bleeding of India greatest time in all history. Almost thirty five million Indians died because of acts of commission and omision by the British in famines, epidemic, communal riots and wholesale slaughter like the reprisal killing after the 1857 war of Independence and the Amritsar massacre of 1919. Besides the death of Indians, British rule impoverished India in a manner that beggars belief. An Era of Darkness will serve to correct many misconceptions about one of the most contested periods of Indian history. For more about this book CLICK HERE.
