Welcome in my blog. As a Sunday reading task of Dr. Dilip Barad sir about the great dramatist Girish Karnad I would like to put my view here. I hope you will enjoy.
• GIRISH KARNAD : CONTROVERSIAL OBITUARIES
Success of any writers, Poets or any Artists depend on their work or art that how they present their views or their arts infront of people or society. If any writer or artist present their view, there are two types of opinion from people of society : Positive or Negative. We can not say that all people have totally positive or totally have negative view about writer or artist. Some people have positive views, at the same time some people have negative view also of same writer or artist. That is depend on the mentality of people. Now let us see the positive and negative view about Girish Karnad on his death. Before that I would like to give you a brief introduction about Girish Karnad.
Born : 1938
Death : 2019
Girish Karnad was born in Matheran, Maharashtra. He was exposed to travelling theatre groups, Natak Mandalis and also his parents were deeply intrested in the play of the iconic Balgandharva era. As a youngest he was most interesting in Yakshagana and in his theatre. While in Madras he got involved in local theatre group, The Madras Players. When Girish Karnad started writing plays, Kannada literature was highly influenced by renaissance in western literature. He was a great dramatist also. He wrote many works like :
Girish Karnad gave his contribution in movie also. He was a great director and actor also. His movies are:
• Positive view of people about Girish Karnad :-
Girish Karnad was a celebrating playwright and he was a strong public voice who described defended freedom of expression and described religion fundamentalism. For that he got many Awards like,
1. Jnanpith Award
2. Padma Shri Award 1974
3. Padma Bhushan Award 1992
We find out many tweets on his death that suggests the popularity of Girish Karnad like,
• Negative view of people about Girish Karnad :-
Girish Karnad took the lead in several protest against the Karnataka prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation Bill, 2012, brought by then BJP government. At the same event Girish Karnad said that he was not himself a beef eater but supported beef eating as it was part of several cultures. The same year, he suggested the city airport could be named after Tipu Sultan.
In September, 2018, he participated in a programme to commemorate the anniversary of Lankesh murder with a placard hung around his neck that,
" Me Too Urban Naxal. "
He along with other writers opposed BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra modi in both 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha election and supported the Congress. Girish Karnad died on 10th June 2019 at Bengaluru at the age of 81.
